Mangalore, Jan 10: The National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation, the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat, and Karnataka Minorities Development Commission jointly organized a formal programme at Town Hall on Jan 10, Sunday, in order to distribute a variety of facilities to minority beneficiaries.
Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the formal function; and in his inaugural speech, he said that the Minorities Commission has elected a president in order to work for the welfare of the minorities. Currently, the government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 170 crore to fund various minority schemes. Previous governments would not sanction more than Rs 32 crore for the minorities. He said that information about various government schemes must reach every house and every beneficiary. This is possible only with the help of the crowd gathered for the Janaspandana programme.
Minority beneficiaries can obtain loans through a variety of schemes such as Self-help groups, Micro Credit, Ganga Kalyana Scheme, and Cluster Scheme with just 4 percent interest. He suggested that minorities must work hard and, one day develop the ability to purchase their own property.
Cheques were distributed to self-help groups such as Surya Self-help Group, Al Madina Self-help Group, Prajna Self-help Group, Indira Self-help Group, and many others.
MLA Yogish Bhat, MLA U T Khader, Chairman of Coastal Development Authority B Nagaraj Shetty, President of Zilla Panchayat Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, and President of BJP Committee Srikar Prabhu were the dignitaries on the dais.
