Pandemonium in MCC meet over proposed naming of Suratkal circle after Savarkar

Mangaluru, Oct 29, 2022: The issue of naming the Suratkal Circle after Veer Savarkar created pandemonium in the Mangaluru City Corporation council meeting on Saturday.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

"The proposal  was included in the agenda of the previous meeting in the last minute and no scope was given for discussion. Before accepting the resolution, the opposition by the Congress must be  placed on record," demanded  Opposition leader Naveen D’Souza.

Even Abdul Ravoof of the Congress voiced the same opinion and questioned why such issues are added to the agenda in the last minute.

Ruling Party’s Chief Whip Premananda Shetty said there was no point in opposing now when the Congress corporators had remained silent without filing objection in the previous meeting.

BJP Corporator Sudhir Shetty Kannur said the Circle at Suratkal will be named after Savarkar  irrespective of the opposition by the Congress.

When Mayor Jayanand Anchan failed to document the objection of the Congress Corporators, the latter staged a sit-in protest in front of the Mayor’s chair. Later the meeting was adjourned.

When the meeting resumed, Mayor said the proposal was being accepted after documenting the objection of all opposition members.
