Around 20 of the 38 families cheated by Shareef Ibrahim, along with the Democratic Federation of India (DYFI) activists (DK district committee), arrived at Pandeshwar South Police Station as soon as they heard news of his arrest.

Shanaz, one of the victims, told Mangalore Today that Shareef had always promised that he will return the money, but had never kept his promise. She added that she had borrowed money from her siblings to pay rent through Shareef and urged the police to give them justice. She said that even after his arrest, he keeps promising everybody that he will return the money although he does not have any money at present, adding that Shareef must return the money because his victims had believed in him.

Sheikh Mohammed Iqbal of Nalpad Kunil Towers on Nellikai Road said that when the victims asked him about their money, he said that he did not have it. He alleged that Shareef was also responsible for the increase in the rent of the flat.

Shareef Ibrahim said that he had never intended to cheat the victims, but circumstances forced him to do so. He said that he will definitely repay the amount. He also said that the victims are lying when they say that 110 tenants have complained against him, adding that many have not filed a complaint because they believe in him.

The victims had lodged complaints against Shareef’s business associates Shakir Ahmed and Nazir Yousuf, who are still absconding.
