Udupi, August 29, 2011: Police investigation has revealed certain new facts in the case of the murder of an elderly couple at Parampalli, Saligrama. It may be recalled that the couple were killed by unknown miscreants on the night of Aug 26 Friday.
While Sanjiva Kini’s (75) body was found in the hall, his wife Vasanthi Kini’s body was in the room. The couple had switched on the fan on Friday night and it was still on when the police entered the house. Since Saturday’s newspaper was still lying on the floor, it was deduced that the couple were killed on the night of Friday.
The couple had just come home after visiting their daughter in Mysore on the afternoon of Friday, and they were scheduled to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in their native place. Their relatives had called them on Saturday, but had received no response. The ornaments that Vasanthi Kini was wearing had disappeared and the cupboards were wide open, with all the cash and valuables stolen. Things were pulled out and thrown around, and the value of the things stolen is yet to be estimated.
The couple is believed to be murdered by people who knew them. They had gained entry into the house after knocking on the door. They then murdered the couple, bolted the front door from inside and locked the back door. The police had to break the lock to gain entry into the house.
According to the neighbors, the couple had returned on Friday afternoon. Since the couple never interfered with anybody, motives of revenge are being ruled out.
