Pillion rider killed as truck hits scooter in Vagga

Mangaluru, July 7, 2024: A collision between a scooter and a goods mini-truck on the Bantwal-Punjalkatte national highway at Vagga in Kavalapaduru village resulted in the death of the pillion rider and left the rider critically injured on Saturday evening.

The deceased, identified as Sumeeth (24), a resident of Bekal near Kasargod, died instantly due to critical head injuries. The scooter rider, Gurpreet, sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru.

Reports indicate that the scooter was traveling from Punjalkatte towards Mangaluru when it was struck by an oncoming mini-truck. The mini-truck, attempting to overtake a pickup vehicle, collided with the scooter. The impact of the collision was so severe that Sumeeth died instantly at the scene.

Bantwal traffic police visited the scene, registered a case and are conducting further investigation into the incident.
