Mangalore, January 13: The Mangalore sub division emerged as the overall champions of the DK District Level Police Sports Meet 2010, which concluded on the evening of Wednesday on the police grounds. Radhakrishna from DAR and Shrikala emerged as the individual champions under men and women category respectively.

The sports event, which lasted 2 days, comprised a number of competitions and games for both men and women; and was jointly organized by the DK district police and Mangalore city police.


Inspector General of Police (Western Range) Alok Mohan said that sports meets will help reduce stress among policemen and women who bear the responsibilities of maintaining law and order and controlling crime and illegal activities for social welfare. The IGP urged police personnel to develop competitiveness, sportsmanship, and discipline by involving in games and sports. Mr. Mohan also urged police personnel to carry out their duties in a responsible way for common good.


Both individuals and teams from the District Armed Reserve Police of Mangalore and Puttur sub divisions and Women Police participated in running races, discus throw, relays, long jump, high jump, javelin throw, triple jump, hammer throw, tug of war, marathon event, shuttle badminton, cricket match, shooting, slow motorcycle race, fancy dress competition, shot put, and others and received fabulous cash prizes.


Seemanth Kumar Singh, the commissioner of police; A. Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, the superintendent of police; Ramesh, the deputy commissioner of police, and others were the senior police officers present.
