Mangalore, Jan 8: “The western range, which comprises 4,66,000 police officers for a population of 55 lakhs, has made great progress in recent years,” said Gopal Hosur, the inspector general of police, western range, during a press conference organized at SP Guest House on Jan 8, Friday.

He informed that the coastal security police have set up 5 new police stations. A large number of people migrate from the neighboring states of Karnataka and indulge in criminal activities here. He informed 50 percent of these criminals are from Kerala. In fact, there are 343 criminals from Kerala, 32 from Andhra Pradesh, 22 from Uttar Pradesh, 17 from Bihar, and 5 – 10 from other states, he said. 

He said that the rowdy sheets will be classified with the purpose of conducting studies on them. A number of seminars regarding criminal issues will also be organized. 

The inspector general also said that the western range has 3.590 religious places and that specific police officers are assigned to go on morning beats at various religious places. They are required to submit reports to their respected station. Issues regarding moral policing, narcotics, and naxals are being tackled and controlled to a large extent. Those who disturb communal peace and violence are sent to Gulbarga and Bellary jails, he informed. 

Superintendent of Police Dr. A Subramanyeshwar Rao was also present at the press conference.
