Mangalore, June 3, 2012: Praja Pragathi Ranga held its zonal convention at Don Bosco Hall on May 3, Sunday. Kodihalli Chandrashekar, president of Praja Pragathi Ranga and state president of Rajya Raitha Sangha, inaugurated the event by watering a sapling.
In his inaugural address, he said that the Praja Pragathi Ranga must give voice to the concerns of farmers, the socially downtrodden, and the minorities in society. Although India comprises 70 percent tax-paying farmers, their condition is so bad that suicide is the only way out for them.
Criticizing political parties, he said that half the BJP MLAs are fit only to be in jail while the Congress is always experimenting with political stunts to win the next elections.
Convener Lolaksha said that the Praja Pragathi Ranga is a ray of hope for progressive thinkers. He also spoke of the importance of the Praja Pragathi Ranga in days when power is concentrated with influential people and the poor are being cheated in the name of democracy.
State President Elias Mohammed Thumbay presided over the event, and SDPI Secretary Akbar Ali presided.
Venkataswamy, president of Samatha Sainika Dal; Abdul Majid Kodlipet, state president of SDPI; and R. Mohan Raj, state president of DSS (Bhimavada) were the chief guests.
Members of the Shri Rama Sene stopped a vehicle, which was allegedly illegally transporting beef from Manur near Neermarga on June 3, Sunday.
Acting on a tip off, a group of 10 – 15 people belonging to the Shri Rama Sene stopped the Tata Ace by throwing stones at the windscreen. They were armed with swords and other weapons.
The three people inside the vehicle, Hussain Baikampady, Umar Jokatte, and Abdul Kunhi Uppala were allegedly transporting 75kgs of beef by hiding it in piles of jackfruit.
The Mangalore rural police arrested Abdul Kunhi and Hussain, but Umar managed to give everybody the slip. The police have confiscated the vehicle and its contents.
Reportedly, the three were transporting beef from a house belonging to Hussainar. The Mangalore rural police have registered a case.
