Udupi, March 24, 2025: Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna has expressed outrage over the FIR filed against former Karnataka minister Pramod Madhwaraj and alleged that police acted under pressure from the Congress-led government.
He questioned the lapse of the police department in filing a case against the fisherwomen under the Dalit Atrocities Act as per the directive of the Congress government.
By registering a suo moto case against the former minister who questioned the atrocities case booked against fisherwomen, the government is attempting to suppress the voice that supported the fisherwomen and fishermen community in connection with the assault of a woman, who was tied to a tree in Malpe port, the MLA said
Suvarna further alleged that the police department has been acting as a puppet of the state government, which has been exhibiting a negligent attitude towards the fishermen of the coastal district.
The patience of the fishermen is being repeatedly tested, and the intelligent people of the district will give a fitting response to this in the coming days, he said.
The suo muto case that Malpe police registered against former Karnataka minister Pramod Madhwaraj was for delivering a provocative speech during a protest meeting held at Malpe port on Saturday.
