Mangalore, June 2:  Minister for Women and Child Welfare Department Narendra Swamy said that the present state government has launched more welfare schemes and benefits for anganwadi workers than any other state government in the past. He was speaking at the Hakkottaya Convention organized by DK District Anganwadi Activists and Helpers Association at Town Hall on June 2, Wednesday.

Claiming that no other government has done so much for the welfare of anganwadi workers than the present government, he asked the anganwadi workers not to feel that the government is doing nothing for them. He informed them that Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa has agreed to provide pensions for anganwadi workers a month after they retire at the age of 50. The government also has plans to implement some more welfare schemes for anganwadi workers.

A capacity builder has been appointed to oversee maintenance following an affidavit submitted by the concerned authorities requesting the government to provide qualitative and quantitative food for the children, said the minister. 


Association President M. P. Bharati presided over the programme. Deputy Director of Women and Child Welfare Department Shakunthala A. was the chief guest. Vishalakshi, the president of the Mangalore city association, welcomed the gathering. Vijaya Eshwar Gowda, the secretary of the association, expressed gratitude.
