Mangaluru, June 19, 2024: The private bus sector in Dakshina Kannada district is set to undergo a significant digital transformation.

Spearheaded by the Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association (DKBOA), private buses will soon begin accepting UPI payments from passengers. This initiative aims to enhance the convenience and efficiency of bus travel in the coastal region.

This development marks the private bus sector as the second transport system in Karnataka, after KSRTC, to digitise its ticketing system.

Additionally, private buses will be equipped with GPS systems for real-time tracking, improving service management. The introduction of UPI payment options will enable passengers to purchase tickets online during their journey, streamlining the ticketing process.

Previously, private bus operators introduced the ’Chalo Cashless Cards’, which have been well received by commuters due to their significant discounts.

During a media interaction, Association president Aziz Parthipady highlighted the success of ’Chalo Cards’, which offer a 60 percent fare discount to students and are distributed free of charge to those with valid identification.

’Chalo Cards’ are prepaid bus travel cards available from designated offices throughout Mangaluru, making it easy for students to benefit from discounted fares.

With the new update, the ’Chalo Cards’ held by students will be continued as DKBOA Student Cards, maintaining their benefits.

Through these upgrades, the Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners’ Association aims to improve the overall travel experience while ensuring the highest standards of passenger safety across all its operations.
