Prostitution racket case: Court acquits all 17 accused

Mangaluru, March 29, 2025: All 17 accused in the prostitution racket case reported from Nandingudde in Attavar have been acquitted. The incident had come to light in 2022 after the police led by then Commissioner Shashikumar and DCP Hariram Shanker raided a flat in the area. A total of 17 people were arrested including some builders and associates of politicians from Ullal.

It was alleged that Shameema, the prime accused who hailed from Uppala in Kasargod was running the racket along with her husband Aboobakker Sidqiue, and other associates.


Prostitution


Investigations revealed that the accused used to trap young women from poor families, including college students after promising lakhs of rupees. The modus operandi was to develop friendship with the girls and then push them into prostitution.

The police had filed a charge sheet and produced 86 witnesses. The prime accused Shameema had died during trial period.

The key witnesses had failed to turn up for hearing eventually leading to the acquittal of all the accused.
