Mangaluru, Dec 03, 2014:  Hundreds of people from Jokatte took out a protest march and staged a dharna against the pollution caused by the coke and sulphur units   of MRPL, on December3, Wednesday morning. The protestors demanded the immediate closure of the two plants which have even posed health hazards to residents of the locality.

The protestors who were around 500 in number alleged that the coke and sulphur units have adversely affected the health of the people. They also accused the district administration of failing to take any action against the company.

The protestors later submitted a memorandum to the MRPL authorities enlisting their demands. The Panambur and Suratkal police personnel were present at the spot to ensure that the protest was carried out peacefully.
