Mangalore, Jan 17: Railway Employees Union members of the Mangalore central railway station stopped the shifting of accident relief equipments while they were being loaded to a private truck for the Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilisers (MCF) at 10pm, January 17, 2011.

The members of the Railway employees unions at Mangalore central station came to know of the covert plans of shifting the accident relief equipments for MCF with the clandestine understanding of higher railway officials. The equipments were being shifted to MCF at Panambur to lift a shunting engine owned by the company that had slipped off the track in the morning, January 17. “In normal cases, the company has to pay up lakhs to the railways to get Accident Relief Van to the accident location. The company was trying to get the job done by corrupting officials with few thousands” observed the union employees.

The railway union members stopped the attempt of loading relief equipments to the truck at Mangalore central station. The commotion in the railway station went on till late night on January 17. The safety Inspector and the Railway police prevented unruly fight between the railway officials and members of the union. “This kind of illegitimate activities had been going since long time” claimed the employees union. The union members fears that the shifting of equipment will take after 12 pm midnight.

We hope, a proper enquiry will be done on the incident to prevent crocked private companies from misusing government facilities.
