Mangalore, Aug 31, 2013 :Venkatesh Prasanna, City Crime Branch (CCB) Inspector has lodged a complaint in the Bunder police station against Rashid Malbari, said to be an aide of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who has been convicted in an illegal arms case, alleging that the latter had threatened to kill him.
The complaint said that Malbari threatened the inspector after the court pronounced the judgment sentencing Rashid and Mohammad Hashim to five years of rigorous imprisonment.
However, Purushottam Poojari, advocate for the convicts is of the view that Rashid might have told something out of pain after hearing the judgment and that the same cannot be considered as a death threat.
He meanwhile, has said that the court’s judgment would be challenged in the High Court.
Rashid Malbari was arrested on March 29, 2009 at Kasargod’s Chattanchal by the then DCIB inspector Venkatesh Prasanna. A 9mm pistol and live bullets were also seized . Among those arrested included Rashid Malbari’s accomplices Mohammed Hashim, Sayaf and Ibu alias Ibrahim.
Rashid is also facing the charges of conspiring to kill BJP leader Varun Gandhi and Sri Rama Sene Chief Pramod Mutalik.
