Mangalore, June 14: The Red Cross Society observed World Blood Donors Day on June 14, Monday as part of which they felicitated six donors.
District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar inaugurated the event and said that those who donate blood to the needy are really great. Lauding the Red Cross Society for its achievements, he said that the organization has become famous for its services during the war.
Urging the deputy commissioner to encourage people to donate blood in larger numbers, the minister complimented blood donor Rakesh for conducting 101 blood camps so far. The minister stressed on the need to create awareness among the people regarding the positive effects of donating blood.
Deputy Commissioner V. Ponnuraj, who presided over the event, said that the seven donors must be felicitated not before a small group, but before a large audience so that everybody will be encouraged to donate blood.
Dr. Balakrishna Rao PHC of Padubidri; Dr. Imran, medical officer of BA Hospital in Thumbay; J. J. Pinto, the principal of SNM Polytechnic College, Moodbidri; social worker Chandrahasa, social worker Sathyashankar Shetty, and Executive Director of Corporation Bank Head Office Ashith Pal were the donors felicitated.
