Bengaluru, June 16, 2023: The Karnataka government has delayed the enrolment process of two schemes – Gruha Jyothi and Gruha Lakshmi – that were promised by Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar ahead of the assembly elections. The registration for the Gruha Jyothi scheme, which was supposed to start on Thursday (June 15), has been postponed, while the Gruha Lakshmi scheme’s registration which was to begin on Friday (June 16) has been delayed by five days.

DK Shivakumar

Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has pointed out a technical snag as a reason for the delay in the launch of the scheme. "Seva Kendras are not able to fill more than 200 forms a day online, so we are working on it. We are planning to develop a mobile application also. A few volunteers can also go to people with a mobile for help. We won’t close by the deadline of June 15. We will give more time," Shivakumar said.

It is estimated that as many as 1.3 crore eligible women heads will be applying for the Rs 2,000-a-month scheme.

Karnataka women and child development minister Laxmi Hebbalkar reportedly said that eligible women heads of families could begin submitting their applications online for the Gruha Lakshmi scheme before taking a U-turn by announcing that they have decided to delay receiving applications for 4-5 days.

The minister, while revealing the reason behind the delay in accepting the application, said that the government wanted to roll out the scheme in a systematic way.

GRUHA JYOTHI SCHEME REGISTRATION DELAYED

Gruha Jyothi is a scheme under which the people of Karnataka can get 200 units of power for free. The registration for Gruha Jyothi, a free power scheme, was supposed to begin on Wednesday (June 15) but has now been postponed to June 18.

The officials from the department reportedly said that the delay was due to the strengthening of the portal as over 2.1 crore households are eligible and will register for 200 units of free power.

A special page has been allocated for the beneficiaries to register on the Seva Sindhu portal. Besides mobiles and computers, the registration can reportedly be done from Karnataka One, Bangalore One, and Grama One centres for the same.
