Renowned Neurologist, KMC former Dean Dr. K. R. Shetty no more

Mangaluru, Dec 29, 2023: Renowned neurologist and former Principal and Dean of Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Dr. Korangrapady Radhakrishna Shetty (Dr. K. R. Shetty) passed away late in the evening on Friday, December 29, 2023 at his residence in the city. He was 87.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, Sanjay and Sajan. Prior to the funeral, his mortal remains will be kept at KMC Marina Indoor Sports Complex, Attavar, Mangalore on Saturday, December 30th from 08:00 AM to 10:00 AM for paying last respects, according to family sources.

Dr. K. R. Shetty hailed from Kaup and was the son of Muddanna Shetty, founder of Canara Nursery, Kaup. Though he was a highly successful neurologist, he had retired from the profession at the peak of his career to give way to the younger generation. A soft spoken person, he was known for his high ethical standards. Following his voluntary retirement, he had dedicated himself to community service and spearheaded many service initiatives including the first professionally compiled book on the history of the Bunt community authored by Dr. B. Surendra Rao, a scholarly historian. He also helped establish the Gulf Medical College (now Gulf Medical University) at Ajman in the UAE.

He was the President of Mangalore Medical Relief Society and a patron of the District Scouts & Guides for a long time.
