Mangaluru/Udupi, Jan 26, 2025: Republic Day was marked with enthusiasm across Mangaluru and Udupi on Sunday.
In Mangaluru, Health and Family Welfare Minister Dinesh Gundurao led the celebrations at Nehru Maidan. Addressing media queries, he dismissed discussions about a change in the chief minister’s position, affirming Siddaramaiah’s leadership and emphasizing that party seniors would handle internal matters. On local issues, Gundurao highlighted security lapses following a bank robbery in Ullal and the attack on a city salon, warning of strict action against lawbreakers.
The Mangaluru parade featured city police, firefighters, NCC cadets, and scouts, with cultural performances by students adding to the festivities. Key attendees included MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, and MLA Ivan D’Souza.
In Udupi, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda hoisted the flag at Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, replacing injured district-in-charge minister Lakshmi Hebbalkar. Minister Byre Gowda reflected on India’s historical struggles and emphasized the importance of constitutional values and state policies aimed at reducing inequality.
Both districts celebrated with parades, speeches, and cultural programs, showcasing unity and patriotism.
