The residents of the area are annoyed with the National Highway Authority of India for planning to acquire 60mts between Nathoor and Thokkottu instead of the 45mts in states such as Goa and Kerala. According to the present plan, 250 acres of land and 600 houses will be demolished, and the protestors strongly objected to this.

The residents are also not happy with the compensation of Rs. 90,000 that will be paid to them because they feel that the cost of their land is much higher than that. Strongly against the demolition of their houses, they say that 45mts is quite sufficient for the NHAI’s four-lane project.

They had approached former DC V. Ponnuraj, all the local MLAs, and ministers, who had previously assured that they will not be troubled. These MLAs and ministers now say that they cannot do anything about it because the central government is in charge of highways.

The protestors will submit a memorandum to P. A. Gavasane, the head of the NHAI, in which they have warned that they will intensify their protests if their demands are not met.

Ismail, Dinakar Ullal, and other members of the association participated in the protest.
