Rishab Shetty wins the Best Actor award; Kantara best film at 70th National Film Awards

New Delhi, August 16, 2024: The highly anticipated National Film Awards have been announced, and this time Sandalwood has bagged several major awards. There was intense competition in the Best Actor category, but ultimately, Rishab Shetty won the Best Actor award. The film "Kantara," directed and acted by Rishab Shetty, has won the Best Film award.

In the Best Actor race, there was tough competition between Rishab Shetty and Malayalam actor Mammootty. The competition also included several films, including Bollywood’s "12th Fail." The National Awards have been announced based on films released between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022. These awards were supposed to be announced in May 2023, but the announcement was delayed due to COVID-19.

The film "Kantara" has won 10 Filmfare Awards and 10 SIIMA Awards. Along with these accolades, it has now also won a National Award. Rishab Shetty had previously won a National Award for his direction of the film "Sarkari Hi. Pra. Shaale, Kasaragodu."

Aattam, direcetd by Anand Ekarshi, explores themes of sexual harassment, gender dynamics, and the complexities of human morality.

Nitya Menen and Maansi Paarekh shared the honors for the best actress. Nithya Menen won the award from the movie Thiruchitrambalam while Manasi Parekh bags it for Kutch Express.

Sooraj R Barjatya judged as the best director for Uunchai.

Bollywood actor Neena Gupta won the award for the best supporting actress for the film Uunchai, while Pawan Malhotra was adjudged the best supporting actor for Fouja.

Gulmohar, starring Sharmila Tagore and Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, won the award for Hindi film. Bajpayee also got a special mention for the movie.

A.R. Rahman won the award for best music director (background music) for his work in Mani Ratnam’s Kollywood movie Ponnyin Selvan-Part 1.

The national awards were announced by feature film jury head Rahul Rawail.
