Mangaluru, January 13, 2016: “A whooping Rs.40, 000 crore investments will be required over period of twenty years for transforming Mangaluru in to a smart city with word class amenities and services” said architect Dharmaraj in his speech on development of city in the technical session of Invest Dakshina Kannada investors meet on January 12 , 2016.
Mangaluru is pre-qualified for a smart city and consultants are expecting that the port city makes it in the first list of top 20 in the country.
The city will be developed Public Private Participation (PPP) model with the assistance from State and Union government and many companies including Leela,GMR, Sunil Shetty showed interest in investing in the smart city project, he said.
Unlike metros and state capitals, where economic activities are well established, Mangaluru, a tier-2 city, requires initiatives to drive economic activities to elevate it to a smart city. Mangaluru, with its intellectual capital and high potential for developing Economic Growth Centres (EGC), is an ideal city to be established as a global city, yet retain its social and cultural identity, he said.
The city’s biggest advantage is its manageable size, both in terms of extent and population, to be moulded to any new positive direction. He says a comprehensive approach to develop all required physical and social infrastructure using smart solutions, along with the development of potential EGC, is required, he added.
First the proper roads , Footpaths, drainage system and the bus stops have to be constructed and then plan for a Smart City. We want our city to be a Smart City and see it economical and global development.
