Mangalore, Aug 29, 2011 : Saadhana National Cultural Foundation of Mangalore conferred the Saadhana Awards for 2010 – 11 on nine people in recognition of their achievements at an awards ceremony held on Aug 28 Sunday.

The awards were conferred on Ananthavelu, the senior television actor; Radharamachandra, the dramatist and film star; Muralidhara Rao, the senior dance teacher; Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, the Tulu film director; Ronald Fernandes, the chief of the Mangalore bureau of Deccan Herald; Vi Ga Nayak, the senior litterateur critic; Jalavalli Venkatesh Rao, the senior Yakshagana artiste; Saraswathi Bhat, the senior social worker; and Umesh Rao Yekkaru, the senior litterateur.

The Saadhana Youth Award was conferred on Sharif Katipalla, the singer, actor, and producer.

Karavali Group Founder President S. Ganesh Rao inaugurated the event. District-in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar conferred the awards. The prominent people present were Harikrishna Punaroor, the former president of Kendra Kannada Sahitya Parishad, who presided over the event; Dharmendra Ganeshpura, the chairman of Janaki Group of Companies; Shivananda Karkera, the PCM; Kunhi, the director of Yenepoya Educational Institutions; and Bhuvanabhirama Udupi were also present.

The official website of Yasha Karnataka, www.yashakarnataka.com, was launched on the occasion by Dr. Devdas Rai, the governor of Rotary International District 3180. Thell Chirikuru, the first comedy video album in Beary, was released by M. G. Hegde, the director of MIFT Fashion College. P. Mahabala Chowta of Durga Furniture released Udugire, a Tulu audio album.

K. V. Krishnadas, the president of Saadhana National Cultural Foundation, welcomed the audience. Yasha Karnataka chief Latha Krishnadas was also present.

The MCs were Arpitha Shetty, Umesh Karanth, and R. J. Prasanna of 93.5 Red FM.

A ventriloquism show by Indushree, the internationally acclaimed artiste, who has been mentioned in the Limca Book of Records, formed the highlight of the event. N. Ramanath presented a comedy show; Junion Rajkumar Jagadeesh Shivapura presented some popular numbers of Dr. Rajkumar; and the students of Sanathana Natyalaya presented a Bharathanatyam show under the guidance of their dance teacher Sharada Mani Shekar.
