Mangaluru, February 5, 2025: In an effort to promote Hindustani classical music among the youth, Sangeet Bharati Foundation, Mangaluru, is set to organize a two-day national-level youth festival, "Dr. P Dayananda Pai Yuva Mahotsav 2025," on February 8 and 9 at Don Bosco Hall, Mangaluru.

The festival will feature a prestigious national-level music competition, with 24 talented young musicians aged between 18 and 30 competing in the final round. These finalists were selected through an online screening process. The announcement was made by Dr. Upasthabha N. Nayak, Secretary of Sangeet Bharati Foundation, during a press conference.

Competition Details:

The competition will be conducted in two categories: instrumental (excluding tabla and pakhawaj) and vocal. Winners will receive cash prizes of ₹60,000 for first place, ₹40,000 for second place, and ₹20,000 for third place. Additionally, first-place winners will be honored with the "Swara Bharati" award and will have the opportunity to perform on stage following the award ceremony.

Distinguished Panel of Judges:

A panel of internationally acclaimed artists, including Pt. Ronu Mujumdar, Ustad Rafique Khan, Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi, Yashwant Vaishnav (renowned young tabla player), Vidushi Poornima Bhat Kulkarni, and Dr. Shashank Maktedar, will judge the competition. The finals are scheduled to commence at 8:30 AM on February 8.

Masterclasses for Aspiring Musicians:

On February 9, the festival will offer masterclasses conducted by leading Indian musicians. Ustad Rafique Khan (instrumental music), Dr. Shashank Maktedar (vocal music), and Vidushi Poornima Bhat Kulkarni will lead these sessions, providing a unique learning opportunity for music students. Grand Award Ceremony and Recital:

The award ceremony will take place on the evening of February 9, followed by a special Bansuri-Vocal-Sitar recital trio featuring Pt. Ronu Mujumdar (Bansuri), Pt. Jayateerth Mevundi (Vocal), and Ustad Rafique Khan (Sitar). They will be accompanied by Pt. Yashwant Vaishnav on tabla and Prof. Narendra L. Nayak on harmonium.

Festival Sponsors and Organizers:

The event is titled after Dr. P Dayananda Pai, Director of Century Group, Bangalore, who is the title sponsor. Union Bank of India, ONGC MRPL, and Bank of Maharashtra are associate sponsors, while LIC, Nutan Cloth Store, Canara Bank, Ideal Ice Cream, and Expert Group of Educational Institutions are co-sponsors.

Sangeet Bharati Foundation has extended an open invitation to youth and music enthusiasts to participate in the "Dr. P Dayananda Pai Yuva Mahotsav 2025." The Foundation also requests media support to promote the festival widely. Present at the press conference were Vice President Shri Narendra L. Nayak, Secretary Dr. Usha Prabha N. Nayak, Trustee Mr. Muralidhar Shenoy, Dr. Ramesh K.G., and Treasurer Karunakar Balkur.
