Releasing the interim report at a press meet here on January 21, Tuesday, KL Ashok, State Secretary of the Vedike said the government should immediately rise to the occasion and initiate suitable action. He said the full report would be submitted to the local legislators as well as ministers of the region before the assembly session would end.

Referring to the Facebook incident reported from Udupi, the Vedike has said it was a  heinous act and appreciated the action taken by the police department against the accused Mohammad Yaseer.

At the same time, the Vedike says the fact finding mission has revealed that   no sooner  it came to light that Yaseer had taken obscene photos of the girl, a group had assaulted him and had snatched his mobile phone, cash etc, thereby indirectly being responsible for the uploading of the photos on Facebook. Moreover, the Vedike said the accused is arguing that his Facebook account has been hacked and that he had not uploaded the photos.

He was also  learnt to be having affair with another girl already and that he had sent the photos to her in order to sever ties with her. The Vedike has stressed the need for a thorough probe to find  from which computer the photos were uploaded. The Vedike has even pointed out that the victim girl has nowhere said she had been raped and took exception to the demands of some organisations to book the accused on rape charges.

Bid to divide student community : The Vedike also stated that the fact finding mission even revealed that  there was groupism among students in colleges of the district on communal lines. Taking exception to the attack on cattle transporters, the Vedike has said  a malicious propaganda was underway in the name of religion

Vedike office bearers Nagari Babaiah, G Rajashekhar, Fr William Martis and Hussain Kodibengre were also present at the press meet.
