Senior journalist Guruvappa Balepuni passes away

Mangaluru, January 24, 2025: Senior journalist Guruvappa Balepuni passed away at his residence at Balepuni on Friday following a brief illness. He was 62 and is survived by his wife and son.

Guruvappa was the special correspondent of Hosa Digantha daily and had served as General Secretary of DK District Working Journalists’ Association and Mangaluru Press Club. He was associated with Hosa Digantha for the past 26 years and had also earlier served Mangaluru Mitra and Karavali Ale.

He had the credit of introducing Harekala Hajabba, the orange seller of Harekala who set up a school in his village. Guruvappa was honoured with many awards including Karnataka Madhyama Academy Award, Dr B R Ambedkar Award of the state government and the national level Sarojini Naidu Award.
