Udupi, January 1: The people of Udupi warmly received Shri Shiroor Seer Lakshmivarateertha Swamiji who is to ascent the Paryaya Peeta in Udupi on Jan 18 on the occasion of his Pura Pravesha on Jan 1, Friday.
The Swamiji arrived at Udupi at the end of a long pre-paryaya pilgrimage to a number of holy places. A huge crowd of devotees welcomed the Swamiji and escorted him in a procession, which commenced from Sharada Mantap at 5 p.m. The Swamiji was seated in a richly adorned horse carriage behind a golden palanquin bearing Anna Vittala, the deity of Shiroor Mutt. As the procession wound its way toward Car Street, a helicopter circled over it thrice, showering flowers and Sanskrit subhashitas over it.
The procession, which comprised folk artists in traditional attire, huli vesha teams, giant dancing dolls, bhajan teams, Karaga Nritya teams, Dollu kunita teams, Markal Kunitha teams, chende teams, and many more, passed through City Bus Stand, Service Bus Stand, Triveni Circle, Head Post Office Road, and Sanskrit College, before reaching Car Street. The artists’ teams were followed by trucks bearing giant-sized portraits of Lakshmindra Tirtha, Vishwothama Tirtha, Bhootaraj, Kanakadasa, Raghavendra, Madhwacharya, Vadiraja, Mukhyaprana (Hanuman), Vittala, and Krishna.
At Car Street, Lakshmivara Tirtha received a darshan of Lord Krishna toward the famous Kanakana Kindi. Later, the Swamiji visited the temples of Shri Ananteshwara, Shri Chandramouleshwara, and Shri Krishna and worshipped the deities there. Paryaya Puttige Mutt Seer Sugunendra Swamiji greeted Lakshmivara Tirtha at Shri Krishna Mutt. Lakshmivara Tirtha Swamiji then arrived at the entrance of Shiroor Mutt and offered prayers along with “navagraha dana” before entering the Shiroor Mutt.
MP DV Sadananda Gowda and MLA Raghupathi Bhat were also present.
