Shivamogga, February 6, 2025: Shivamogga is set to host a Kambala event for the first time, marking a significant cultural milestone for the Malnad region. The traditional buffalo race will be held on April 19 and 20 at the Tungabhadra Junction in Machenahalli, located between Shivamogga and Bhadravati.
Speaking to the media, former Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa stated that the event, part of the ongoing Kambala season, will be the final and 25th race of the year.
A ’Bhoomi puja’ ceremony for the venue is scheduled for February 10 at 3 p.m. The event will feature over 100 champion buffalo pairs competing and is expected to attract 8 to 10 lakh spectators.
Eshwarappa emphasized that the event will blend the rich cultural traditions of the Tulu and Malnad regions. In addition to the race, cultural performances will also be part of the festivities.
