Shop owners asked to vacate for road widening work

Mangalore Today News Network

Bantwal, Jun 27, 2012 : Shop owners in Vittal have been asked to vacate their shops by July 15 to facilitate road-widening work. If everything goes as planned, tenders will be called by July end and the widening work will begin by the first week of August.

The above decision was taken at a meeting between government officers and shopkeepers at Circuit House in Vittal on June 25, Monday. Mallika Prasad, MLA of Puttur, and Dr. N. S. Channappa Gowda, the deputy commissioner of DK, also took part in this meeting.

In his address, the DC requested shop owners to voluntarily give up their shops within the deadline because the officers are marking points at the junction for a 50-foot roundabout.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Mallika Prasad also urged shop owners to vacate their shops so that the road-widening work can be done. All these years, meetings have been held to discuss road-widening issues, but nothing has been done so far, he added. He also said that the funds earmarked for this work will be diverted if the shop owners refuse to give up their space.

Gopal Nayak, ZP chief executive engineer; Dr. Divya V. Gopinath, Vittal probationary ASP; and Yashwant, Mescom assistant executive engineer, were also present.
