Beltangady, Apr 27, 2012 : Shree Kshethra Dharmasthala organized its 41st mass marriage ceremony on April 26 Thursday, during which 157 couples from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh got married.
Dr. D. Y. Patil, the governor of Tripura, was the chief guest of the event. Lauding the social service of Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, he said that conducting free marriages for economically backward couples is an excellent way to serve the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Shobha Karandlaje, the state energy minister, expressed her concern over the rise in divorce cases, which she said is because of western influence.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Veerendra Heggade said that modernization has not changed the basic values in human society, adding that conducting mass marriage ceremonies is a good way of safeguarding the sanctity of marriage.
Among the dignitaries present were Vinod Hamirvasia, the chairman of Birla Cements; Niraj Jain of Madhya Pradesh, the renowned scholar; Hemavathi Heggade; and many others.
