Mangalore, Dec 22, 2012: Youngsters should shun unnecessary fear about mathematics, said Prof. TC Shivashankeramurthi, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore.
He was speaking at a Sugama Ganitha Mathematics Campaign organized by Mangalore University College on the occasion of the 125th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujam, here on December 22, Saturday. A Mathematics Quiz and exhibition was arranged on the occasion.
The Vice Chancellor said there has been a sharp decline in the number of students opting to study mathematics over the years. Lauding the contributions of Srinivasa Ramanujam to the field of mathematics, Prof. Shivashankeramurthi said the great personality who devoted just two years of his life for Mathematics study undertook 400 researches and 900 solutions during the period.
The programme was earlier inaugurated by Prof. Subraya Karanth. Dr HR Lakshminarayana Bhat, Principal of Mangalore University College and others were present.
