Sivasailam, CMD of Amalgamations Group died of heart attack in Manipal

Manipal, Jan 12, 2010: A giant among industrialists in South India, a towering personality, A Sivasailam, 77, Chairman of Amalgamations Group, Chennai, died in KMC hospital in Maninipal at 6.30 pm, today, January 12, 2010.

Mr. Sivasailam had come to Sringery Sharada Temple, (the Sharada Peetam of  Jagathguru Sri Sri Shankaracharya) on a personal visit. In the evening, January 12, he felt uneasiness and chest pain unexpectedly. He was rushed to KMC Hospital, Manipal in a helicopter. However, he succumbed to cardiac arrest and died in the hospital.

The body of Mr. Sivasailam will be taken to Chennai in a chartered flight from Bajpe Airport by 8.30pm today itself.

Mr.Sivasailam is the one who has made it a point in life to have integrity as the guiding principle to run his business establishments numering around 47, all coming under the banner of Amalgamations Group. Donning the mantle of chairmanship of the group in 1968, Sivasailam has been instrumental in nurturing the group from a turnover of just Rs 35 crore then to its current turnover of Rs 6,500 crore.

Born on August 24, 1934, Mr. Sivasailam is the elder son of the late S Anantharamakrishnan, also known as `J’, who was considered to be a great visionary and a pioneering industrialist of his times. Sivasailam is an industrialist, a philanthropist, a connoisseur, a proud citizen of the country, but above all “The Complete Man”, who made Entrepreneurship, Excellence and Ethics his philosophy at work and in personal life.

Accolades and recognitions rest lightly on his shoulders. He was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2007.

 

He is survived by two daughters, Mallika Srinivasan, Director of TAFE and wife of Mr. Venu Srinivasan, CMD, TVS Group and Jayashree Venkataraman, Director TAFE.
