Karkala, September 29, 2024: Six suspected Naxals, led by Vikram Gowda, are rumored to be considering surrender in the Western Ghats, raising hopes for a peaceful end to their insurgency. Sources say the group has been active in the area, and the Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) is closely monitoring the situation.
The Karnataka government’s intensified crackdown and internal disputes within the Naxal ranks, along with reduced local support, are believed to be driving the surrender talks. The state has seen 14 previous Naxal surrenders, facilitated by a rehabilitation package offering up to Rs 7.5 lakh.
The government’s state-level committee is working to reintegrate surrendering Naxals into society. Negotiations involving a coastal mediator are ongoing, though legal cases will proceed as per law.
