Mangaluru, June 22, 2020: The first annual solar eclipse of the year was partially visible in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district amid the hide and seek of the clouds on June 21, Sunday.
The eclipse started at 10.04 am and peaked at 11.27 am when the Moon covered 40.38% of the sun. This was clearly visible from the skies in Udupi. The Poorna Prajna Amateur Astronmers Club also live streamed the eclipse for those interested. The footage was streamed through the website of the Club using the Youtube channel of the Club.
At Poorna Prajna College, Udupi, the Club members watched the eclipse using telescope filter and welding glass. Dr A P Bhat, Atul Bhat of the Club, Dr A Raghavendra, Principal, Physics Department Head Pratibha Acharya and others were present.
In Mangaluru, the peak eclipse was visible at 11.36 am when 40% of the sun was covered by moon’s shadow. In Mangaluru arrangements were made to watch the eclipse at Akashbhavan under the leadership of science teacher Aravind Kudla under the aegis of Chintana Sanskritika Balaga.
