Belthangady, Jan 13, 2014: Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera has informed that the State Government has issued an order on November 6 last year entrusting the Sowjanya rape and murder case to the CBI.
Producing documents in this regard at a press meet held here, the MLA also made a request to the organisations which have been fighting for justice, to stop the protests until the investigations are over and the report is out.
Continuing, the MLA said he has been asserting since long that the Sowjanya case has not been probed in the right direction and had even constantly pressurised the government to entrust the case to the CBI.
The MLA further requested the protestors to honour the government order as well as the CBI and suspend the protests until investigation is complete.
On the areca ban proposal controversy, Bangera said unnecessary fear is created in the minds of the growers. He further questioned if the government would have offered crores of rupees as compensation to growers affected by Kole disease of arecanut crops if it intended to ban areca. He also declared that he would immediately tender resignation to his legislatorship if the government banned arecanut.
