Bangalore/Mangalore, July 31, 2013 : State Home Minister KJ George has assured to direct the CID Inspector General investigating into the Sowjanya rape and murder case to trace the real accused in the case.
In a written reply to a query by Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera, the Home Minister said action will follow against the Belthangady SI Yogish Kumar too in case there was dereliction of duty on his part in investigating into the case.
Earlier, Bangera while drawing the attention of the government towards the case, said that the act was not committed by a single person. He also pointed out the fact that Sowjanya’s body was found at the spot where locals had launched a thorough but futile search the previous day. He further said though Sowjanya went missing when it was raining, her bag, books and clothes were not wet.
Vasanth Bangera also pointed out that the Belthangady SI instead of taking possession of the under garments found in the person of Sowjanya, had seized the under garments found in her house. The police officer had also placed in his pocket a slip with two mobile numbers found besides the body of Sowjanya, Bangera said adding the matter has not been mentioned in the FIR.
Bangera further demanded suspension of the Belthangady SI who, he said had failed in doing justice to his duty.
