Addressing the press meet held at Press Club on Dec 17, Tuesday, he said that even after 14 months of Sowjanya rape and murder case, the police have not shown any interest in investigating the case and arresting the real culprits. They have also failed to submit a charge sheet to the Child Welfare Committee and hand over the case to the CBI.

He also said that in spite of conducting so many protests, the government has failed to handover the case for CBI inquiry. The influential people under the pressure of protestors have agreed to conduct the CBI probe; hence the government must conduct the investigation under the surveillance of Supreme Court to give a neutral stand.

The union has decided to take the victims parents to Delhi and address their sorrow to the entire nation. Since the Sowjanya’s case is not less to Nirbhaya case of Delhi, but the difference is that it has taken place in big city. The Union will take all the measures to raise voice for justice and further will take the issue to the international human rights organizations.

He also urged the state government to hand over the entire 464 unnatural deaths taken place in Ujire – Dharmasthala over the past ten years to CBI probe.

He also lauded the courage of Sowjanya’s family for fighting for justice.

Prof Narendra Nayak from the Federation of humanists Organization said that there are many religious centres in the Dakshina Kannnada, but none of the places have witnessed such kind of brutal incident.

Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi and uncle Vittal Gowda were present at the present.
