Special Educators’ Association organizes ’Spandana - 2010’

Mangalore, June 22: The Karnataka State Association for Special Educators and Supportive Staff organized a state-level conference Spandana 2010 for the teachers and supportive staff of special children at Town Hall on June 22, Tuesday.

Member of the Vidhan Parishad Captain Ganesh Karnik delivered the inaugural address, in which he said that Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa wanted to participate in this programme, but was unable to do so because of his busy schedule. Captain Ganesh Karnik also said that the CM is aware of the problems of special teachers and is willing to work for the development of special schools. He declared that serving special children and bringing a smile to their faces is equal to serving God. 

MLA N. Yogish Bhat presided over the occasion and assured the organization that he would discuss issues regarding basic facilities and pension for special teachers with the CM. He said that the CD containing the stage performances of special children will be sent to the chief minister, adding that this will influence him better than any speech or write up. 

MLA U. T. Khader said that the conference will have a lasting impact, adding that God has made special children differently because he loves them. He also expressed his appreciation of the state government for providing funds worth Rs 20 lakh for the development of special schools in the budget and urged the government to provide more funds to improve basic facilities. 

Prof K. R. Venkatesh, the president of the Mentally Challenged Civilians Parents’ Association, spoke on the National Endowment Act. Bangaradka Vishweshwar Bhat spoke about the parents of mentally challenged children. 

Vasanth Kumar Shetty, the convener of the conference, welcomed the gathering. Agnes Kunder, the president of the Udupi Block, proposed the vote of thanks. Prof Radhakrishna was the comperer. 

M. Savithri, the director of Handicapped and Senior Citizens’ Welfare Department; Usha Jagirdhar, the president of the conference; and Kareppa B. H., the secretary of the association, were present on the dais.
