Mangaluru, Nov 2, 2024: In the coastal and inland areas of Dakshina Kannada district, there has been a disturbance in the harmony between communities. To resolve this, job opportunities must be created for the youth. With this goal, the government is considering implementing a special tourism policy for this region, said Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He spoke at the "Ashoka Jana-Mana" clothing distribution event organized by MLA Ashok Rai’s Rai Estates Educational & Charitable Trust at the taluk stadium in Kombettu, Puttur, on Saturday.
Dakshina Kannada district is turning barren. Due to communal disturbances and other issues, students from other districts are not enrolling in educational institutions here. Many banks established here have disappeared and local youth are migrating to Saudi Arabia, Mumbai, and Bengaluru in search of employment. Therefore, local leaders have advised prioritizing local job creation in the area. This region has a large number of temples and a coastline, so steps will be taken to implement a dedicated tourism policy here. Despite having a major port, Mangaluru lacks quality five-star hotels, said Shivakumar.
