Srimathi Shetty murder case: Court sentences two to life imprisonment

Mangaluru, September 25, 2024: The First Additional District and Sessions Court of Mangaluru has sentenced two persons to life imprisonment in the Shrimathi Shetty murder case that took place in the city on May 11, 2019.

Those sentenced to life imprisonment are Jonas Jowlin Samson (40) and his wife Victoria Mathias (47). Another person proved guilty in the case is Raju and the court has sentenced him to six and a half months of simple imprisonment.

The deceased Srimathi Shetty (42) was running Sri Polali Electronics at Attavar and also ran a chit fund business. Jonas had two membership in the fund but did not pay monthly instalments and Srimathi was pressurizing him to pay the instalment. On May 11, 2019, morning Srimathi had gone to Jonas Samson’s residence to demand money.

There Samson had attacked Srimathi with a wooden plank. Later both Jonas and Victoria dragged her to the bathroom where they slit her throat and robbed her jewels. They then cut apart the body into 29 parts and dumped them in gunny bags in various parts of the city.

Another convict in the case is a friend of Jonas who was given some jewellery of Srimathi by the accused. He had also provided shelter to the accused in his house for a day.

The murder came to light when Srimathi’s severed head was found near a shop at Kadri. Later other body parts were found in Nandigudde.

A total of 48 witnesses were heard in the case.
