Mangalore, Dec 8: St. Aloysius College (autonomous) organized an international workshop titled “Applications on Nanotechnology to Energy, Environment, and Biotechnology (NANO EEB) on Dec 14, Tuesday. Higher Education Minister Dr. V. S. Acharya inaugurated the workshop in the Eric Mathaias Hall of the college and said in his inaugural speech that he would like to learn more about nano science and technology as he does not know much about it.
Stating that great Vedic sages knew about nano science, he said that the scholars of those times never conducted any research on their knowledge. He said that the international workshop is the first step toward conducting experimental research on nano science. Speaking about the relationship of Nano technology and medical science, he said that medical science requires nano technology in the modern age. Stating that a number of changes have taken place in the past century, he said that scientific advancement is taking place at a fast pace and that it ought to be supported.
St. Aloysius College Rector Fr. Joseph Rodrigues presided over the inauguration ceremony.
Over 100 researchers, industrial representatives, teachers, postgraduate students of biological and physical sciences from several universities and colleges from all over India participated in this workshop.
Prof. Dr. K. V. Rao of the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden, delivered the keynote address.
St. Aloysius College Registrar Dr. Narahari, Dr. Narayana Bhat, Fr. Leo D’Souza, and Principal Fr. Swebert were among the prominent people present.
