Mangaluru, January 9, 2025: The week-long State Games 2025 will be held from January 17 to 23 in Mangaluru and Udupi, announced Govind Raju, Chairman of the State Olympics Association.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, January 9, he said, "Previously known as the State Olympics, the event is now called the State Games 2025. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has allocated ₹5 crore in the budget for this event, which was planned two years ago. The games will be hosted across Mangaluru and Udupi."
U T Khader, Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, revealed that the games will feature 25 events spread across Mangaluru, Udupi, Manipal, and Bengaluru. He detailed:
Mangaluru will host 12 events,
Udupi will host 8 events,
Manipal will host 3 events, and
Bengaluru will host 2 events.
A total of 3,247 athletes will compete for 631 gold, 631 silver, and 827 bronze medals across men’s and women’s categories.
Event details
* Mangaluru: Badminton, basketball, fencing, football, handball, kho-kho, netball, swimming, volleyball, weightlifting, wushu, and taekwondo.
* Udupi/Manipal: Archery, athletics, boxing, cycling, judo, kabaddi, wrestling, kayaking, canoeing, hockey, lawn tennis, and table tennis.
* Bengaluru: Gymnastics and shooting.
The inauguration ceremony will take place in Mangaluru on January 17, and the valedictory ceremony will be held at Ajjarkadu, Udupi, on January 23.
Preparations for Athletes
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan stated that 631 hostel rooms near event venues have been secured for athletes, with provisions for transport and food.
Udupi DC Vidya Kumari added that 750 rooms have been arranged at MAHE Manipal hostels and BCM social welfare hostels for athlete accommodation.
