Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2024: Police have intensified investigation into the case of missing of Chaitra (27) of Puttur who was a PhD scholar at an institution in Derlakatte. Meanwhile, Hindu outfits have raised a clamour that this was a case of Love Jihad.
The scooter which Chaitra was using has been found at Suratkal. Police teams are at Bengaluru and Honnavar and have launched a search for Chaitra.
The young woman who was an orphan had completed her education while staying at her uncle’s place in Mangaluru. She was pursuing PhD from a private institution at Derlakatte and was securing a monthly scholarship of Rs 40,000. Chaitra was staying at a rented accommodation at Madoor in Kotekar along with her classmates and was reported missing on February 17.
She had gone to Suratkal that day in her two-wheeler. Her bank records reveal she had withdrawn Rs 10,000 four times from an ATM in Suratkal. Police suspect she later has travelled to some other district by bus. As her relatives are in Honnavar, a police team has been there in search of her.
According to police sources her mobile details revealed that she had contacted a man in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile Hindu outfits have alleged that Chaitra was lured into drugs for Love Jihad. It is learnt, locals had informed Hindu outfits that some youth including a Muslim man used to visit the accommodation where Chaitra stayed with her classmates. Meanwhile there are allegations that a drugs peddler Sharukh used to supply drugs to this house.
