Mangalore, Feb 3: “Students must think out of the box,” said Suresh Bhat, the chairman of Software Technological Park in NIT-K, after inaugurating Acme 2010, a 2-day event organized by the Commerce Department of St Aloysius College in the IT Auditorium of the college. He said that extra and co curricular activities help students to think beyond the scope of text books and thereby help them to build successful careers.
Fr. Joseph Rodrigues, the rector of St Aloysius Institutions, said in his presidential address that St Aloysius Institution has imparted education that has nurtured the souls of students and ignited their minds. He said that businessmen must work for the welfare of their customers.
Brandon Miranda, the secretary of the Commerce Association, said that Acme 2010 is based on the theme of business. He said that the event focuses on the promotion of creativity and team work, besides providing a platform for students to hone their organizational skills. Acme 2010 includes events such as Suave Financier, Agency, Trendsetters, Mock Stock, Show Stopper, and Faux Pas, he said.
Prof A M Narahari, the registrar of St Aloysius College, and Dr. Suresh Poojary, the dean of the Commerce Department were present on the occasion.Veena Kumari, the president of the Commerce Association, proposed the vote of thanks.
The Commerce Association of the college has been conducting Acme 2010 for the past decade. The event gives students a chance to explore the various realms of the business world through competitions that imitate real-life business situations.
