Sullia : Leopard falls into trap laid for boar ; rescued

Sullia, Jan 8,2013 : A leopard which fell into a trap laid for a boar at Guttigar, has been rescued by officials of the Forest Department and Pilikula Nisargadhama on January 8, Tuesday.
If Belliappa, a farmer of Kallaje in Guttigar village, fed up with the menace of wild boars, had laid a trap for the same behind his house, on Monday night it was a leopard which fell into the trap.
However, the incident came to light only on the morning of January 8, Tuesday on hearing the leopard’s roars.
Locals rushed to the spot and soon the Panja forest officials were informed. Veterinarian from Pilikula Nisargadhama Dr Vikram Lobo and Dr Venkatachalapathi, a local veterinarian were successful in shooting tranquilisers at the leopard with assistance of Sullia’s ACF Dr Dinesh Kumar.
Later, the leopard was rescued from the trap and shifted to an iron cage that was kept ready. The animal was subsequently let free in the Bisile reserve forest area.
