Sullia: Mother convicted in a case of causing burn injuries to her child

Sullia, January 9, 2025: A mother has been convicted in court for causing burn injuries to her 5-year-old child using a hot vessel, and the court has sentenced her accordingly.

The incident occurred on August 16, 2022, at the residence of the accused mother in Navoor, Gandhinagar, Sullia. Kavya Shree, due to a personal matter, heated a milk vessel on a gas stove and inflicted burns on her 5-year-old daughter’s left cheek, right arm, left shoulder, and left thigh. The matter came to the attention of Rashmi, an officer from the Women and Child Protection Department, who visited the location and filed a complaint against the mother at the Sullia Police Station.

After a thorough trial, the court found the accused guilty of the offense. Senior Civil Judge and JMFC, B. Mohan Babu, pronounced the judgment, sentencing the mother to a fine of ₹5,000, failing which she would serve one month of simple imprisonment.
