Sullia: Thousands of fish perish in Payaswini river

Sullia, February 11, 2025: Thousands of fish have been found dead in the Payaswini river much to the concern of locals. It is suspected that contaminated water of the river is the reason behind the mass death of fish.

On Sunday hundreds of fish were found dead in the downstream area of Nagapattana vented dam. Meanwhile on Monday fish were found dead in the river at Bhasmadka and Kanthamangala too. The water has also turned black.


Fish perish


Meanwhile Sullia Town Panchayat Chief Officer Sudhaker has said measures would be taken to test the water of the river.

Locals complain that contaminated water from a KFDC rubber unit at Nagapattana was the reason for the pollution of the river water. It is alleged that the pipe of the waste collection unit of the rubber plant was ruptured by some miscreants resulting in the contamination of river water.
