Sumitha suicide case : Accused hubby surrenders; remanded to judicial custody

Mangalore, Dec 19, 2013 :The Kankanady Rural police have arrested Sunil Kumar, the prime accused in the case of the  suicide of his wife Sumitha,  after he surrendered at the police station on December 18, Wednesday evening.

As already reported, Sumitha who was allegedly fed up with the torture meted out to her by her husband and in-laws had consumed an overdose of tablets to commit suicide. She died in the hospital  on December 16, Monday night.

The arrested Sunil Kumar has been produced before the magistrate. He  has now been remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.

Sunil had married Sumitha in May this year. However, Sumitha had to face trouble very soon when her husband and in-laws reportedly began to harass and torture her for more dowry.

Already, police have registered cases against Sunil, his parents Leela and Sudhaker and sister Divya for torturing Sumitha, as per  the statement made by her before the police before breathing her last.

The body of Sumitha was handed over to her family on Wednesday after a post-mortem.
