Vasanthi who was unaware of the gas leakage had switched on the stove on Wednesday afternoon, when fire broke out. As she raised a scream, Pushpa who was washing clothes rushed inside and both women suffered serious burn injuries. Neighbours rushed to the spot and helped the two women whose clothes had got stuck to their bodies and their sarees had to be cut off to rescue them.

Later, Indane Gas Agency officials visited the house and checked the gas pipe, regulator and cylinder and suspected that gas had leaked from the pipe near the regulator.

The house owner Vaman who was an Ayyappa Vrithadhari was cooking in a separate kitchen close by the house. There were two more cylinders in the house and luckily they did not explode during the fire.
