Suratkal auto men parade fellow driver to police station for molesting minor

Mangalore, Jan 9, 2013: The autorickshaw drivers of Suratkal area have made their message loud and clear . That they would not tolerate sexual harassment of women and children, even if it was committed by one of their own men. On January 9, Wednaesday, the autorickshaw drivers of Suratkal area came together and paraded a fellow driver who had allegedly molested a minor girl.

The accused auto driver Imam (45) was stripped off his shirt and taken to the Suratkal station where the auto drivers appealed for stern action against and also cancellation of his licence.

The incident is learnt to have taken place on January 8, Tuesday, when Imam was taking the  girl studying in fourth standard in his vehicle. Sources said the matter came to light when the girl complained to her parents and the same was brought to the notice of Umesh, President of the Suratkal Auto rickshaw drivers’ Union.

 

The autorickshaw drivers who felt the incident has not only brought shame to the auto drivers but tarnished their image,  caught hold of Imam and paraded him to the station. Nearly 350 autorickshaw drivers were present.

It has been reliably gathered that Imam had behaved  in a similar fashion on earlier occasions too. Suratkal police have registered a case.
